Music, Lyrics, Voice – Symphony

Trust that you are staying healthy and safe. Please continue to follow all safety protocols.

Music industry is a huge industry with lot of contributors. There are music composers, lyricists, instrument specialists, sound engineers, etc.

Imagine walking back from work or driving back from work, along the way the soundtrack from a loudspeaker nearby makes you stop in your tracks. What made you stop?

Music?

Lyrics?

The voice?

Recognition triggers can be varying from person to person. The same soundtrack that had a recognition trigger with the tune, might have someone recognising it from the lyrics, and another through the voice singing the song. At times, we have the same soundtrack played by multiple artists. For example, a soundtrack composed by Linkin Park or AR Rahman or Ilayaraja or Pritam can be played on the stage by another troop/group of musicians. The difference though will be noticeable when delving deeper into the nitty-gritty details of the song. However, the essence, and the beauty of the human memory executed through the brain will enthrall the mental self. Now, coming back to our question; which of the three entices one more?

I would like to say none of it is good enough without the other. For example, go ahead and listen to your favourite song from an album or a film in the following ways:

  • No voice. No Lyrics. Just the music
  • No Music. No Voice. Just the lyrics flashing on the screen and you read it
  • No Music. No Lyrics. Only a voice
  • Music + Voice
  • Music + Lyrics
  • Music + Voice + Lyrics

Among all the above options, the most meaningful one would be the last one. Why? Because the combination of all the three, multiplies the beauty and value of each individual contributor. The best musician could have strung together the various instruments, or the best instrumentalists could have played the tunes, or the best singer could have rendered their voice to the lyrics, or the best lyricist could have penned the lyrics to the song. None of these stand as strong or have as much value as they are together. Imagine a song that has the best music composer composing the music, the best singer rendering his voice, the best instrumentalists playing the instruments, the best lyricist penning the words for the situation, and the best sound engineer making them all sound just right – The best song ever, right?

Still not there for the best song unless each of them give their best to the success of the song. In the same way, an organisation could have the best individuals working for them. Does this automatically make it the best organisation? Not necessarily. All the individuals must put aside their egos and be willing to work together in an environment that is co-created to be fertile just as the red soil. An environment that involves individuals who do not consider themselves as individuals but as small part of a song that has to fit right in, and repeat multiple times if required along the course of the composition.

Synchronised team efforts with synergy win any day against synchronised individual efforts.
